Is a two-wheeler better than a car?
Per kilometre, a small motorbike or scooter emits about half as much as an average car, using the DESNZ factors. Metro is lower still per passenger. Buses vary with how full they are: the average-bus factor we use is a little higher than a small two-wheeler.
How are electric vehicles counted?
By the electricity they use per kilometre multiplied by India's grid factor. Change the kWh per km under Assumptions to match your vehicle.
Does carpooling really help?
Yes. The car's emissions are shared, so two people in one car each have half the footprint of driving alone.
Why does the result use UK factors?
There is no complete official Indian set of per-kilometre factors for every mode, so we use the UK government set as an approximation.
How can I balance my commute?
Cut what you can first; then plant trees for the rest. Each tree is a 2-3 ft sapling, cared for three years and geo-tagged, from ₹299.
