Plan a credible forest pledge

What a credible forest pledge includes

• A clear type of action: conserve existing trees and forests, restore degraded land, or grow new trees on farms and in cities.
• A measurable target and date: the number of trees or hectares, and the year you'll reach it.
• Named places: the states, districts or sites where the work will happen.
• The right species: native or site-suited trees, chosen with local communities and farmers.
• Care and survival: care for at least the first three years, with survival measured, not just planting counted.
• Yearly progress reports: what was planted, where, and how many trees are surviving.
• A place in your wider climate plan: a pledge supports, but doesn't replace, cutting your own emissions.

Funding a pledge through CSR

Tree plantation is an eligible CSR activity under Schedule VII, so a pledge can be delivered as a CSR programme. Keep your claims consistent: trees funded as CSR and reported towards a pledge shouldn't also be sold as carbon credits. See CSR rules for tree plantation.
