Delhi Urban Forest - Juanapur, Delhi

Amidst the bustling capital city of Delhi, a vital green initiative is taking root. The Baba Neem Karoli Ashram Biodiversity Park, located in Juanapur, is poised to transform into a thriving urban forest, encompassing 110 acres and nurturing a diverse range of 70,000 native trees. This ambitious project, aims to combat the environmental challenges plaguing Delhi and cultivate a healthier, more sustainable future for its residents.

• Combating Air Pollution: Delhi grapples with significant air quality issues. Planting native trees will act as nature's air filters, absorbing pollutants like particulate matter and releasing clean oxygen, leading to a significant improvement in the city's air quality.
• Mitigating Urban Heat Island Effect: As Delhi continues to urbanize, rising temperatures pose a growing concern. This urban forest will provide much-needed shade and promote evapotranspiration, a natural cooling process that lowers surface temperatures and creates a more comfortable urban environment.
• Enhancing Biodiversity: The loss of green spaces in Delhi threatens the city's native flora and fauna. This project will create a haven for diverse plant and animal species, enriching the local ecosystem and promoting long-term biodiversity conservation.

Native Tree Species: The Heart of the Forest

The project prioritizes planting native tree species that are well-adapted to Delhi's climate and ecosystem. This ensures their optimal growth and fosters a thriving habitat that supports local biodiversity. Some of the native tree species to be planted include:

• Amaltas (Cassia fistula): Known for its vibrant golden flowers, the Amaltas tree adds beauty and attracts pollinators, enriching Delhi's urban landscape.
• Peepal (Ficus religiosa): Revered for its spiritual significance, the Peepal tree's heart-shaped leaves and graceful branches offer tranquil havens within the bustling city.
• Neem (Azadirachta indica): Renowned for its medicinal properties, the Neem tree's resilience and pest-repelling qualities make it a valuable asset, contributing to a healthier urban environment.
• Siris (Albizia lebbeck): Providing shade and nitrogen-fixing benefits, the Siris tree strengthens the soil and enhances the visual appeal of Delhi's green spaces.
• Kachnar (Bauhinia variegata): Adorned with clusters of pink and white flowers, the Kachnar tree adds a touch of vibrancy to Delhi's streets, attracting pollinators and contributing to biodiversity.
• Jamun (Syzygium cumini): Bearing delicious purple fruits, the Jamun tree provides a source of sustenance for both residents and wildlife, fostering a deeper connection with nature within the city.
