Quick answer

What is an employee tree plantation drive?

An employee plantation drive brings teams together to plant native trees at a managed site, with the trees cared for and tracked long after the day. Grow Billion Trees handles the site, saplings, tools, safety briefing and follow-up, and every participant can see the trees they planted on a digital forest page.

Tree plantation programmes for employee engagement

A tree plantation programme gives employees a shared activity with a lasting result: a planting day together, and trees they can follow for years. It works best when planned like a programme, not a one-day event: the right site, species suited to the land, and care afterwards so the trees survive. 85% of trees survive across our programmes. For a step-by-step guide to the planting day itself, see how to organise a tree plantation drive.

Formats for your teams

  • Office or campus drive: a Miyawaki forest or green belt on your own or nearby land.
  • Community site drive: planting on public, school or village land near your office.
  • Farmer drive: fruit and timber trees on farmers' land through agroforestry; the farmer keeps the fruit and timber income.
  • Coastal drive: mangrove restoration with teams in coastal cities.
  • Remote and hybrid teams: every employee plants a tree that appears on the same digital forest page, or through Green Meetings.

Occasions companies plan drives around

  • World Environment Day (5 June) and Van Mahotsav (first week of July)
  • Earth Day (22 April)
  • Diwali and year-end employee gifting: one tree per employee with a certificate (see corporate gifting)
  • Company anniversaries, new office openings and team offsites

Where we run drives

We run plantation drives in 14 states, including sites near Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Gurugram, Noida and Kolkata. See plantation by state for Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Drives and CSR

The plantation itself can be part of a CSR project under Schedule VII when the trees benefit the public or a community. Costs that benefit only employees, such as event hospitality, should be kept out of CSR. See CSR rules for tree plantation.

More questions about plantation drives

When is the best time for a tree plantation drive?

The monsoon, roughly June to September in most of India, gives saplings the best start. Miyawaki forests and irrigated sites can be planted through much of the year.

Can we run a drive in more than one city at once?

Yes. Many companies run drives at several offices on the same day, with all the trees shown on one digital forest page.

How do employees see their trees afterwards?

Each tree is geo-tagged and tracked on GreenTrack. Participants get a certificate and can follow the trees on the company's digital forest page.

Questions companies ask about Employee Engagement

How many employees can take part?

Drives work for small teams and for whole offices; we size the site and saplings to your group.

Can the plantation count as CSR?

The plantation programme itself can be structured under Schedule VII; employee participation is volunteering. Your CSR committee decides how it is recorded.

Where can we hold a drive?

At managed sites near your office, across 14 states in India.

What about remote teams?

Remote employees can plant trees that appear on the same digital forest, or join through Green Meetings.

What happens to the trees after the event?

They are cared for, tracked on GreenTrack and visible on your digital forest page.
