1.) Do I own the tree I plant?
We plant our trees only on government or community/public land so that they can benefit the greatest number of people. The tree belongs to the community, which benefits from its planting. Your gift of a tree is a gift to society and the planet. Neither we nor our financial supporters own any of the trees that are planted.
2.) Can I be linked to the tree I plant?
Given the scale on which we plant and community participation during the process, it is not possible to link an individual to a tree. We plant trees only on public lands for the benefit of the environment and the local communities in that region who bear the responsibility of maintaining the trees. However, using our Locate Tree feature you can connect with our projects virtually on Google Maps.
3.) Can I visit the project site where the tree I plant is?
You can use the Locate Tree feature on our website to find out where your tree(s) has been planted using Google Maps. If a company or individual adopts an entire project, we can arrange a site visit during the planting time.
4.) Can I choose the type of tree I want to be planted?
The species of trees is determined by our planting partners who have local expertise and know which species are best suited for the agro-climatic conditions in the region.
5.) Which trees are planted?
The variety of trees planted depends upon agro-climatic conditions and the benefit of those trees in terms of flowers, fruits, fodder, fuel, and non-timber forest produce for the local community as well as insects, birds and animals of the particular project location. All trees species planted will be local to the planting site.
6.) When do you plant trees?
We plant trees on a periodic basis. Trees are planted in the most optimum season in various regions of the country to ensure higher survivability.
7.) What is the process of planting trees?
We carefully select our planting partners based on their reputation and track record. To ensure the quality of their work, we have our planting sites independently audited after the first year of planting.
During the audit, the auditors physically verify the total number of saplings planted, the species of the saplings, and compare these to our financial records. They also interact with local communities and the village panchayat to assess their participation in the project, evaluate the mortality rate of the trees, and report any other observations.
Based on these parameters, the auditors provide a comprehensive evaluation of the plantation project.
8.) How long does it take for a tree to grow?
The rate of tree growth varies depending on the species and environmental conditions. Some trees can grow quickly and reach their mature size within a few years, while others may take decades or even centuries to fully mature. It is important to choose a tree species that is appropriate for the space and time frame you have in mind.
9.) How do you ensure that trees planted survives well?
Our planting partners have extensive experience in ensuring the survival of trees. During the audit, the auditors physically verify the total number of saplings planted and the species of the saplings, and compare these to our financial records. If a tree does not survive, our planting partners replace it with a new one. We do more than just plant trees and hope for the best - we also educate farmers and growers on proper reforestation so they understand not only how to do it, but why it is important.
